Square One

Screaming dreams
pulled me back
to square one

I don’t want to
know which way I
was facing
’cause, now back
to the beginning
I realise that
Square one is my home

I want to explore
its edges
Dive in its safety
Sleep in its whiteness
Dream in its shelter

The end was
only a respite
The beginning –
a sanctuary

    1. Haha! Yes, maybe. The meaning of this poem is pretty much on the surface, really – I feel I should write more like what I used to than where it went after a while – Thank you, Spahr! You’re always very kind. 🙂

  1. I’m wrapping my head round the last stanza – I like it when poems are like that, you know, really make you think. Like, attain something deeper than an understanding.

      1. I’m good. Although, my health is going a bit downhill with the sinusitis.
Hahaha, good luck for the math me time! 😀

  2. Wonderful poem! Reminded me of my thoughts in the haiku and the song from this post http://21shadesofblue.com/2013/11/26/new-haiku-please-square-this-circle/ copy/pasted below.

    “Please Square This Circle”
    by Ry Hakari

    This superstitious
    cyclically surreal,
    cul-de-sac spinning

    square the circle:
    idiom
to find a good solution to a problem when that seems impossible, especially because the people involved have very different needs or opinions about it

    “Crank”
    by The Catherine Wheel

    Love my superstitious games
Running circles round my brain when I’m left smiling

I love to steal this living steam
    My head in someone’s dream
    I’m tired of sleeping

    Call me crank, my idea
    Crank, so super
    Crank, my conscience clear

I build my canopy of steel
It fulfills my sense of real
    A chrome protection

    Call me crank, my idea
    Crank, so super
    Crank, my conscience clear
    It’s clear

In this small partition, like a prison
    Explode time bomb
If you know where I come from

You call me crank, my idea
    Crank, so super
    Crank, my conscience clear
Please call me crank, it’s what I need
    Crank, my mind in seed
    Crank, my dream complete

Lay down, lay down, lay down

    1. Thank you very much, Ryan! The haiku is can be called a sister-haiku of the poem I wrote – especially because of the last line “cul-de-sac spinning” simply brilliant!
Also the song! It was splendid – your comments are always so thought provoking, it’s a delight to know you. 🙂

  3. Stunningly beautiful! Amazingly worded and creatively interlaced concept. You still wanna explore it is a sign that you are not lost….you are deeply rooted to a safe spot…where you belong.

  4. Very thought-provoking. It did not end where I thought it would and that was a pleasant and fascinating surprise. The ending stanza is beautiful 🙂

  5. I’ve had a lot of “square ones” in my life and I can honestly say I wouldn’t trade in a single one. Because out of each one has come an opportunity for growth in mind, body, and spirit. Wonderful poem!!

      1. Thank you I am. And to be honest, I have, in my life been in far worse places than a spam folder so I am no worse the wear for my recent visit there. And it was a great poem, worth the journey! 🙂 And, I trust that you too are doing well?
