The Journey

21

Her shoes never wear out, ’cause
she always takes the same path
The abandoned rail track
that leads where the sight goes
Just yesterday she saw a
death’s-head moth glowing
in the stolen sunlight
She followed it in awe, but
it got lost in the light
Today she waits for the moth
under those rickety trees

Her shoes never wear out, ’cause
she always takes the same path
She waits.
The hills forever
wave in anticipation

“Will it come out even if the sun does not?

When the scholarly birds leap from the sky to their nests after a day’s lesson, pushing the cloud desks into a thunder, will it come out to see the lightening?”
